HOW TO GET TO SIENA:
By Air:
a) From London Gatwick with Meridiana or from London Heathrow with Alitalia, Lufthansa, Air France, bmi &
KLM to Florence (Peretola airport). http://momondo.com searches flights across sites such as expedia, opodo & onlinetravel.
b) From London Gatwick to Pisa (Galileo Galilei airport) with Easyjet: http://www.easyjet.com or British Airways.
c) From Bern (Belpe) to Florence (Peretola) with Lufthansa.
d) From Zurich to Florence (Peretola) with Swiss, Swiss International Airlines, Alitalia, Air France, Brussels
Airlines; from Zurich to Pisa with Alitalia.

(from Milan, there are trains running hourly with one change at Florence, total time c. 4 hrs 25 mins).
(from Pisa, there are approx. 2 trains per hour, with a change at Empoli, total time c. 1hr 45 mins).

Please note: From Siena to Pontignano a bus will be organised: you are kindly requested to arrive either at Siena bus station or Siena train station by 15.40. The bus will stop at both these pick-up points in turn (about 5 mins between each, depending on traffic). The bus then takes c. 25 minutes to arrive at Pontignano. A return bus will also be organised: this will leave on Tuesday 20th at: NB time to be confirmed.
Taxi: from Siena to the Certosa di Pontignano costs approx. Euro 20
Public Bus: from Siena to Pontignano (& vice versa) bus number 34: a very infrequent service, please contact me for further details, cost 1 Euro
Free Afternoon Trip: Sunday 18th:
After lunch, an organised guided tour of Siena encompassing principle buildings.
This is not compulsory, but an indication if you wish to attend on the booking form would be appreciated.
The cost will be divided between the number of participants & will be at each person own expense. eg. if we have 30 people the cost would be no more than Euro 5 plus the cost of the public bus to Siena & back (Euro 2). Entry to the Cathedral to those who wish would be an extra c. Euro 2.
The Meeting:
This lively and unique three day meeting will encompass a combination of poster presentations together with approximately 16 student presentations (mainly graduate students working in the Consortium) as well as specially selected guest speakers and Principle Investigators of the MAIN Consortium.
The meeting will be able to host approx. 42 students and a group of leaders from the Consortium and is an excellent opportunity to meet other students from the Consortium and network.
The Saturday afternoon will kick off with the first poster session to be followed after dinner by an invited speaker. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday mornings would be covered by lectures given by invited speakers (45 min/1hr) and presentations by students (10/15 minute talks). A trip is planned for Sunday afternoon (please see above).
We are delighted to announce that the four distinguished scientists who will be speaking are:

2. Prof. Matthias Wymann, Local Institute Co-Ordinator MAIN, University of Basel, Switzerland
3. Prof. Ruggero Pardi, MAIN Co-Ordinator, Fondazione Centro San Raffaele, Italy
4. Olga Barreiro, post graduate, University of Madrid, Spain
Attendance of the meeting is free for students, travel fees & any extras have to be covered by the individual participant.
All students applying are kindly asked to provide an abstract together with their personal details on a standard application form by February 24th, 2008.
